Cool tools: Thunderbird Saved Search folders
Continuing in our series of Thunderbird power tips, today we're going to highlight the Saved Search folders feature. This is especially useful for folks wanting the same functionality offered by Microsoft Outlook—but without the cost, complexity, limited operating system support, and licensing hassles.
Saved Search folders look and function the same as any other Thunderbird mail folder. Search folders however are created from a specific search query using a set of filters (instead of manually sorting emails). In this screenshot we are creating a search folder named Important Items, which looks for all email messages containing the Important tag:

After clicking the Create button, the search folder appears in the left-hand-side folder listing (just like any other folder). You'll note however that the folder icon has a different apperance, identifying it as a saved search folder. Clicking on the folder instantly displays all email items that are tagged as Important:

Saved Search folders are quicker and more convenient than manually sorting through discrete emails. Saved searches can be straightforward and simple, or contain complex criteria to automatically locate and display highly-specific information.
